Child custody issues are always decided based on what is in the best interests of the child. And almost without exception, the non-custodial parent is granted visitation rights. Feldman Family Law, in Boston, Massachusetts, has extensive experience helping parents work out child custody and visitation issues.
Experienced Child Custody Attorney
There are many types of custody arrangements that can be established. The most common is one parent being awarded primary physical custody with both being awarded joint legal custody, so they both have some say in major decision that affect their child’s life. There is also sole legal custody, where only one parent is given the authority to make major life decisions for the children.
Too often child custody issues become tied up in other aspects of divorce dispute. One parent may make false accusations against another to gain custody of children or to avoid paying child support. In my experience, judges look down on attempts to vilify one parent in order to obtain custody of a child. I strive to make the case for why my client offers the most stable living environment for the child, rather than concentrating on the deficiencies of the other parent.
Child support is often one of the most contentious issues associated with divorce. It is also one of the terms most likely presented to a judge for modification. Feldman Family Law, in Wellesley, Massachusetts, helps people deal with child support issues and post-divorce modification of child support provisions.

It can be difficult to determine how much child support should be paid and what issues are involved in determining child support. Often negotiated child support agreements are very detailed covering issues such as private school and college tuition, daily child expenses, and life insurance policies and who is named as beneficiaries on those policies.
It is incorrect to assume that child support payments will simply end when a child turns eighteen. Massachusetts counts children as dependents until they turn twenty-one, as long as they are primarily dependent on the custodial parent for support. If the child is enrolled in a post-secondary educational instruction, child support may continue until the child is twenty-three.
Modification Attorney in Wellesley
While the non-custodial parent is almost always required to pay some amount of child support, that amount can be adjusted up or down depending on the circumstances of either parent. The loss of a job, a significant increase in pay, parental move aways, and access to the child can have an impact on the amount of child support that is paid and the modification of child support orders.
I work closely with my clients throughout their divorce to ensure that their children receive proper support payment. Then I remain available to handle any post-divorce modification dealing with increased or decreased child support and the non-payment of child support orders.
